Now, this has nothing to do with Dungeon and Dragons or DareDevil (even though there is a picture of him on the left), this is related to Diabetes. So just read on…
For those of you who follow me on Twitter, You know that I talk a lot about Diabetes. Not really that odd considering every waking (and sleeping) moment of every day, Diabetes is part of my life. Well, today and for the last few days, I have really been immersed in my own desire to design. See, I have a degree in graphic design and have always had a love for it but for whatever reason, ;life did not take me on that path as a career. Well, I would really like to start dabbling in design again and see if I can build up my portfolio again.
One thing that I have really wanted to find is more involvement in the Diabetes community in the Kansas City area. Up to this point, I really have not had much luck. Because of this, as I have mentioned in a previous post, I have thought about starting up my own Diabetes group in the Area, in hopes of bringing more activity to the area. So, an idea I had was to start a website for the KansasCity area that focused on Diabetes, the Kansas City community, information and events that were going on and that fellow Diabetics could get involved in. Well, With my new found desire to help evolve my portfolio and involvement in Diabetes in the community, I have taken my first steps in this process.
The first thing that I have done is to purchase a new domain name. That name is livinwithdiabetes.com. Now before you try going to this address to see what is there, nothing is there…YET! I have only gone as far as to purchase the domain name and lay some of the groundwork. So, right now, you won’t find anything of any interest there but this will change with time. The next thing that I did was to start playing around with some logo designs. I figured that I would post my first design for you. I kind of like it and may stick with it, but I have not decided yet. So without further a-due, here is the first concept logo for the site:
Now, like I said, this is just my first idea but I like where it is going so I might make a few tweaks to it and call it done. There is then the task of designing the site itself. I have a thousand ideas that I would like to impliment to it but I also don’t want to over complicate things. There is also the thing that I have not found much of a community here yet. So as much as I want this to work, it will only do so if I can find people to show interest.
I want to include such things as an event calendarwith scheduled events a minutes breakdown of group meetings, a suggestions page for topics and events for future meetings, mini-blog, Diabetes terms section, about page, resources page and link to other sites / blog/ communities just to name a few. I know that I may be biting off more than I can chew at the moment but I am going to try and get the ball rolling at the upcoming Diabetes walk here in Kansas City and see if I can see if the interest is there. I am going to continue to work on the site regardless of whether this evolves into something or not. At the very least, it can be something to add to my portfolio but I really hope it does because I think it could be something really positive for the Diabetes community.
I guess we will just have to wait to see. Let me know what you think of the logo and give me feedback. good, bad or indifferent.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, the Dand D in the post title stands for Diabetes and Design.

Hi Chris! You know I’m on board for whatever you need. I had this exact idea and would love to help out in anyway I can.

OMG! Your in Kansas City? I am from Kansas City, MO! Are you from Missouri or Kansas? it’s a small world. I love your logo; it’s awesome. I am excited to see your new website. There is a young lady named Andrea (stickysweetdiabetics.org) she is also a member of TuDiabetes. She is interested in starting up Diabetic events in the Kansas City area. I was telling her my Mom works for Samuel U. Rodgers community health center and she does a radio show once a month about Diabetes. I am trying to talk to her about doing a show on diabetic bloggers in the Kansas City area. IF you are interested let me know, even though I am in Cali I would love to see something great happen with Diabetes in the Kansas City area. I would also be willing to help from here…I could go on and on.
